The Rialto commercial towers in Melbourne will soon transform into a glorious sea of yellow daffodils. There will be 20, 000 bright yellow daffodils to discover in the Rialto Piazza, as part of the Cancer Council’s Daffodil Day Appeal. Daffodils will be available for purchase from 7am to 2pm, unless sold out prior. This event will take place on Thursday August 25.
Daffodil Day at Rialto
This year marks 36 years of Daffodil Day. All funds raised goes towards supporting cancer research. Despite the pandemic last year, almost $1.5 million was raised for the Daffodil Day Appeal.
Cancer Council Victoria’s CEO, Todd Harper AM, is urging everyone to donate this month. “Cancer takes so much from all of us,” he said. “It’s why this year, we’re calling on Victorians to give hope to those impacted by cancer by funding vital cancer research that is saving lives every day. Every person who donates or buys daffodils this August will be helping us to continue investing in life-saving cancer research programs, giving hope for better treatments and early detection and ultimately, giving us hope for a cancer-free future.”
According to Sarah Herbert, General Manager of Rialto, the Daffodil Day Appeal is one that’s close to their hearts. “With nearly 150, 000 Australians diagnosed with cancer ever year, most people have been touched by this disease in some way or another, including many of the Rialto team and its customers,” she said. “The last two year’s of Rialto’s annual Daffodil Day Appeal looked a little different, so we are absolutely thrilled to be able to transform Rialto’s beautiful Piazza into a vibrant montage of daffodils that can be experienced in person once more, and in support of those Australians affected by cancer.”
To show your support, visit the Rialto Piazza on Daffodil Day between 7am and 2pm on Thursday August 25. Small and large daffodil bunches will be available to purchase from $7.50.
If you aren’t able to make it on the day, check out the Daffodil Day Appeal website to find more ways to donate or get involved.
