We love a themed cafe here in Melbourne, and there’s one opening very soon that should be a lot of fun. Instead of flying to Tokyo, stay right here in the city and visit Melbourne’s first-ever maid cafe. Step into a castle-themed experience, become a Prince or a Princess, and enjoy drinks and omurice from the staff, who will be dressed as cheerful maids. The Royal Maid Cafe will have a pre-opening event from March 26 to 29, followed by a grand opening on April 1.
Royal Maid Cafe in Melbourne
Immerse yourself in this unique part of Japanese culture. Escape your everyday life and enter the “Kingdom of Kawaii”. You’ll become a part of the story as a visiting Prince or Princess, and be greeted by name and led to your seat.
Look forward to soft décor inspired by European royal aesthetics, with sparkling chandeliers and cute decorations. Tuck into a comforting bowl of omurice, sip on sweet drinks and have fun with live entertainment.
Pre-opening event
For the pre-opening event, there will be live performances from travelling kimono singer Rin Sakura. She will play music at 1pm, 2pm, 8pm and 9pm, and you’re invited to sing along.
You’re welcome to purchase a ticket, which includes omurice, unlimited soft drink and one cheki (Polaroid photo) with a maid. Or book a free entry ticket, and order your food, drink and experiences separately. As this is a soft launch, this will be used to test and tweak their service and operations, so some things might be different after the grand opening.
Rules of entry
While formal attire isn’t required, you are welcome to dress up in a way that feels suited to entering a royal kingdom. Extremely revealing clothing or casual outfits, beach sandals and designs that might be considered offensive or inappropriate are not allowed. Those with a strong body odour or poor hygiene will not be allowed to enter. Intoxicated guests will be denied entry.
For the safety of the staff, there will be no physical contact, sexual/inappropriate comments or disrespectful behaviour. Guests cannot ask for the personal information of the maids. Photos and videos of the maids and other guests, outside of the Polaroid photo, is not allowed.
Alcohol is for those over 18. Guests under 18 can enter, as long as they are with a guardian.
Seating sessions last for one hour.
