If you’ve ever played a game where you had to figure out who was secretly working against you, you’ll understand the delicious tension at the heart of Saboteurs. This immersive experience in Melbourne takes the familiar format of the addictive ‘Among Us’ game we all became obsessed with years ago and turns it into a full-scale, futuristic adventure where you’re not just guessing who the impostor is, you’re inside the game with them. Our team headed along to try out the Original Map session for ourselves, and let’s just say alliances were formed, accusations were thrown around, and trust didn’t last very long! Read on for our full review.

From the moment you arrive, the experience wastes no time pulling you into its world. The setting feels straight out of a sci-fi film, with sleek interiors that make you feel like you’ve stepped aboard a spaceship. After gearing up with your equipment and getting a quick briefing on how the game works, you’re introduced to the mechanics of the mission. There’s even a “Ghost Room” where eliminated players end up after being “ejected into space”, complete with a leaderboard that keeps the competitive energy high. By this point, the atmosphere has already shifted—everyone knows the game is about to begin, but no one knows who they’ll be able to trust.
Once you’ve got the hang of your laser-beam shooter, it’s time to enter the map itself: a maze-like arena packed with tasks to complete. At the start of the game you’re secretly assigned a role as either a crewmate or an impostor, and that’s when the tension really kicks in. As a crewmate, you’ll move through the moon-base setting completing tasks at different stations, from watering plants and mining Moon Opals to tuning communications, stabilising shields, and interacting with areas like the Decontamination Unit, Medbay and Sleep Pods. If you’re a crewmate, every corner suddenly feels suspicious as you try to tick off these activities while keeping a watchful eye on everyone around you. If you’re an impostor, the pressure is even greater; you need to blend in, pretend to complete the same tasks, and strike at just the right moment while convincing everyone you’re innocent.

The real chaos unfolds when discussions start. Crewmates must decide who they think the saboteur is, and accusations fly as everyone tries to defend themselves or point the finger elsewhere. The rules are simple but ruthless: if the number of impostors ever matches the number of crewmates, the impostors win. Add in the running scoreboard and suddenly things get surprisingly competitive, but in the best way possible. There’s plenty of laughter, a bit of theatrical suspicion, and the occasional dramatic betrayal when someone realises they’ve trusted the wrong person.

If you’re looking for something different to do in Melbourne, Saboteurs is an easy recommendation. It’s fast-paced, highly interactive, and just unpredictable enough that no two rounds feel the same. It’s also well suited to a wide range of groups, whether you’re going with friends, family, colleagues, or celebrating something with a bigger crew, and the simple gameplay makes it easy for people of all ages to get involved quickly. Whether you’re the one secretly sabotaging the mission or desperately trying to expose the culprit, it’s the kind of experience that will have your group talking, and arguing, long after the game ends.
