After a $9 million renovation, the Oceanarium at SEA LIFE Melbourne Aquarium is complete, and there’s a brand new exhibit to go along with it. Check out Night on the Reef, and explore the nocturnal life under the sea, with colourful creatures, a bioluminescent beach and more. To celebrate the launch of this new experience, a free drone show will light up the sky above the Yarra River for one night only. Watch the drones depict sharks, rays and other marine life from 9pm on Tuesday January 16. You can admire this spectacular free display from both banks of the Yarra River near the aquarium.
Oceanarium at SEA LIFE Melbourne Aquarium
The Oceanarium is filled with a whopping 2.2 million litres of water, 74 tonnes of salt and 34 tonnes of sand. After an 11-month renovation, it has been converted into an ecosystem that mirrors the diversity of the world’s coral reefs.
Discover plenty of tropical fish species, as well as sharks, guitarfish, eagle rays, sea turtles and more. Walk along a bioluminescent beach, surrounded by colours that mirror the vivid life found in coral reefs around the world. Explore the enchanting world beneath the waves, and get up close and personal with marine life.
The Night on the Reef exhibit will also have presentations from marine educators, so that you can learn and appreciate these fragile ecosystems.
As the sharks and rays settle into their new home, popular experiences like Shark Dive Xtreme and the Glass Bottom Boat tour will not be running. To see what experiences are available, click here.
