At a corner store in Carlton, in the former home of IMA Project Cafe, you’ll find the newly opened venue, sunhands. Led by the same hospitality team behind Heartattack and Vine on Lygon Street, this new location is part café, deli, wine bar and general store. This easy-going venue is the perfect neighbourhood meeting place, and celebrates makers, growers and producers from Victoria and beyond. Sunhands is currently open from 10am to 3pm, Tuesday to Sunday. Once the space is licensed later this autumn, it will stay open later for evening drinking and a seasonal dinner menu.

This casual spot invites you to come, soak in the sunshine and relax the day away. Whether you’re looking for breakfast, lunch, or just a glass of wine, sunhands has got your back. Enjoy alfresco dining and aperitivo hour in front of the venue.
Small plates by head chef Pat Drapac (Bar Romantica) are available all day. Enjoy pairings like Akimbo country sourdough with Chasney Estate extra virgin olive oil, or house pickled octopus, fried shishito peppers and baked ricotta with agrodolce.
sunhands features suppliers from around the state, including Day’s Walk Farm in Keilor, Long Paddock Cheese from Castlemaine and Sporadical City Mushrooms from Alphington. They’ve also got heaps of ferments from Hobart’s Rough Rice.
Vegan and vegetarian options are available for dine-in and takeaway, and there’s a whole range of other homemade and small-batch products to take home with you.
As for drinks, you discover a range of Victorian wine available for purchase, including Upside Wine, Mine en Place, Blood Moon Wines and Beyond the Glass. You’ll find a different line-up of local drops with each visit, as well as small-scale producers from interstate.
Beyond the food and wine, sunhands also supports art, with custom plates, vases and wine buckets by Melbourne ceramicist Kelly Greenhalgh. There’s also a commissioned artwork by local creator Poppy Templeton (Duck Ragu), who is known for her stained glass windows and mirrored pieces.
Sunhands is now open for you to enjoy. Evening sessions are coming soon.
