We love all things flowers, from peony picking in springtime to wandering through lavender gardens in the warmer months. And if you’re driving along the Surf Coast, you might want to stop by a charming sunflower farm in Modewarre. Located around an hour and a half from Melbourne, you can walk through the paddock, capture colourful pictures, and pick your own sunflowers to take home. Surf Coast Sunflowers will open for a limited season, from Friday December 27 until all picked out.
Surf Coast Sunflowers
This lovely summer experience was created by three friends, Abbey, Amy and Anna, who are all from a farming community and wanted to create a flowering sunflower paddock for all to enjoy.
Pack a picnic to enjoy among the blooms, and pop by their vintage Airstream for some cool refreshments.
If you visited this paddock last year, you might notice that the sunflowers aren’t as tall this season. This was due to a dry year and challenging growing conditions. However, the flowers are still a beautiful sight to behold, and they’ve been planted in long rows for you to run through. Frolic through the field and take as many photos as you like. The entry fee has been reduced to $5 per adult. Children can visit for free.
Stems are $3 each to pick, or you can get ten for $25. As this is a pick your own event, you will need to bring your own secateurs for cutting, and a bucket to take the flowers home.
It’s a working farm, so dress appropriately, put on plenty of sunscreen and wear closed toed shoes. Dogs aren’t allowed to come along, as there are livestock in the neighbouring paddocks.
Opening hours
- Sunday to Monday – 10am to 5pm
- Friday and Saturday – 10am to 8pm
