We love all things flowers, from peony picking in springtime to wandering through lavender gardens in the warmer months. And if you’re driving along the Surf Coast, you might want to stop by a charming sunflower farm in Modewarre. Located around an hour and a half from Melbourne, you can walk through the paddock, capture beautiful pictures, and pick your own sunflowers to take home. Surf Coast Sunflowers is open for a limited season, from now until January 21.
Surf Coast Sunflowers
Choose between day sessions and twilight sessions at this dreamy sunflower patch. Day sessions run from 10am to 3pm and twilight sessions run from 5pm to 8pm. You will need to purchase a ticket in advance, and sunflowers are $3 to pick per stem.
When you arrive, pop by Alice the Airstream for a chat to find out the best spots. Then, frolic through the paddock and take as many photos as you like. As this is a pick your own event, you will need to bring your own secateurs for cutting, and a bucket to take the flowers home. You’re welcome to also bring a picnic to enjoy, as long as you leave the alcohol at home. Cold drinks and refreshments are also available for purchase.
It’s a working farm, so dress appropriately, put on plenty of sunscreen and wear closed toed shoes. Dogs aren’t allowed to come along, as there are livestock in the neighbouring paddocks.
Tickets are $10 for adults, and $5 for children over the age of 5. Surf Coast Sunflowers is open from Wednesday to Sunday, with twilight sessions available on Friday and Saturday nights.
