The historic Tasma Terrace in East Melbourne has been reimagined. Built between 1879 and 1887, this elegant corner of Melbourne was once a series of lodging houses. Now, the National Trust of Australia (Victoria) has transformed the landmark, with a new Tasma Gallery, as well as a shop and heritage library. Visit the gallery for its inaugural exhibition, The Sweet Stuff, and get a look at the National Trust’s Costume Collection. Tasma Terrace is open from Thursday to Saturday, from 11am to 5pm.

Tasma Terrace
Unlike other historic venues from the National Trust, which tell the story of a single place, Tasma Terrace will be used as a way to explore what heritage in action looks like today.
Visit the new gallery and take a rare look at the Costume Collection. The Sweet Stuff exhibition celebrates colour, texture and the indulgence of fashion. The garments on display range from 19th century silhouettes to 20th century couture, highlighting cycles of reinvention in fashion. The exhibition is on from now until December 13.
Across the terrace, you’ll find the Tasma Shop, which features timeless garments and accessories, as well as locally-made pieces inspired by the Trust’s collections.

Wander into the adjoining heritage library, and learn more about the building, as well as the broader heritage movement that saved it from demolition in the 1970s.
Throughout November, you’re welcome to participate in the Thursday-night Soirées. Grab a drink and explore the exhibition after-hours. On Thursday November 6, there will also be a Fashion Trunk Show, where the exhibition’s curator will provide insights and offer a behind-the-scenes look at garments that are normally carefully tucked away in storage.

Entry to Tasma Terrace is free! If you’d like to support the work of the National Trust, donations are always welcome.
