Drive roughly three hours away from Melbourne to the off-grid town of Licola. There, you’ll feel thrown back into the ’90s for three fun-filled days, in the immersive festival known as The Town. Back for its seventh year, this imaginative village will feature all sorts of cool spots, like a video store, a Big Brother House and more. It will be completely interactive, and you’re invited to create your own character and join in the fun. The Town festival is on from Friday November 29 to Monday December 2.
The Town festival
Whether you’re going for playful butterfly clips or effortless grunge, you’ll find lots of themed spaces to explore in The Town. See skaters and goths roaming the streets, and dance along to cheesy ’90s music at prom. Have fun at the Karaoke Bar, play in the Arcane Arcade, join a frat house party, check out Goliath Records and more. At Video Sleezy, actors will be there, performing the movies that you select. You’ll also find a recreation of Nirvana’s MTV unplugged set.
The focus is on the atmosphere and the experience, but there’s plenty of music to enjoy too. Look forward to a mix of live bands and live electronica, across a vast range of styles and cultures.
Set in the alpine town of Licola, this festival also encourages you to be as sustainable as possible. Appreciate the beauty of the surrounding valley, and do your best to leave no trace behind. Licola is owned by the Lions Clubs of Victoria and southern New South Wales, and 95 per cent of its power comes from solar panels. The town also pumps and treats its own water from the Macalister River nearby.
This is a family-friendly experience, so kids are welcome to come along and join in on the creativity.
