Melbourne’s independent theatre powerhouse Theatrical Inc is tuning up for a mind-blowing celebration of stage and song this April, as Theatrical Symphony arrives at the National Theatre, St Kilda.
The three-night showcase (10th–12th April) will see a lineup of rising stars take on some of musical theatre’s most iconic works—amplified by the full force of a live 36-piece orchestra.
Specifically, the concert promises sweeping symphonic renditions of hits from Les Misérables, Hamilton, Dear Evan Hansen and Wicked, among others. Steering the production is musical director and conductor Kent Ross, whose vibrant style has lifted everything from Catch Me If You Can to Titanic over his 20-year career.
A Star-Studded Stage In Melbourne

Adding extra shine to the occasion is Australian theatre veteran Alan Fletcher—known nationwide as Dr Karl Kennedy from Neighbours—who will emcee the event.
“I’m very excited and flattered to join the inaugural production of Theatrical Symphony,” Fletcher said. Moreover, theatre and music showcase the ultimate expressions of human nature, bringing joy and inspiration to audiences and participants alike. Theatrical Inc. deserves applause for giving people the chance to explore their creativity.”
That creative energy runs strong throughout the company’s ensemble. The cast includes familiar faces from Theatrical Inc’s recent successes, such as Legally Blonde standouts Emily McDougall and Jackson Cross, School of Rock lead John Yanko and young powerhouses Amelia Durham and Ayda Melody Hendricks.
A Fresh Take On Broadway Classics

Conductor Ross said the production is a love letter to musical theatre—and a chance to hear its greatest hits with symphonic grandeur. In addition, “Performing at The National Theatre alongside a full symphonic orchestra, the concert spans musical theatre’s greatest hits, from timeless classics to modern favourites,” he said.
“I’ve created musical arrangements that honour the original works while fully embracing the scale and colour of a symphonic orchestra. It’s a celebration of artistry and a chance to experience these songs in a fresh, exciting way.”
Theatrical Inc’s Executive Producer Andrew Gyopar echoed that sentiment, calling Theatrical Symphony “a special opportunity to showcase some of Melbourne’s most exciting emerging musical theatre talent.”
Finally, bringing together emerging voices and seasoned performers, Theatrical Symphony promises a joyful concoction of nostalgia and new energy—where Broadway meets the glamour of the concert hall.
