An exciting new Japanese venue is coming to Melbourne. Led by Spring Chee, the pastry chef and restauranteur behind other establishments like Le Mille Creperie, Sugar Labo and Sweetie Moustache, this new venture will be a casual eatery by day and an Izakaya bar by night. Tokyo Motto will open at Bourke Street’s MidCity Centre on Sunday January 21, 2024.
Tokyo Motto
You’ll find plenty of mouth-watering dishes, including the comforting Omurice. You can try it plain, with just the rice and tornado egg omelette for $12.50, or add other items like chicken katsu, hamburger steak, sukiyaki beef and veggie tempura.
Other highlights include Japanese curry, served with a signature ‘Golden’ Curry sauce that has been infused with stone fruits and fresh bee honey. You’ll also find a Thick Cut Katsu, with pork loin that was sous-vided for 24 hours.
There’s a whole assortment of hearty dishes to try, like a range of donburi bowls and udon. But, if you’re feeling adventurous, opt for the Sapporo Spicy Miso Ramen with Ice Cream. This bowl of ramen is topped with a soft serve ice cream in a wafer cone. As you slurp your way through this fiery dish, the ice cream will slowly melt, and balance out the spice with its sweetness and creaminess.
From 9pm onwards, Tokyo Motto will transform into an Izakaya bar. Enjoy a range of bar snacks, including fried chicken, takoyaki and cream crab croquette. Pair it with sake and cocktails, like Tokyo Iced Tea and Lemon Sour Tower.
