There’s something thrilling about a hidden bar, and one particular venue beneath the CBD has transformed into a warm winter escape. Search for wood log cabin door, adorned with a bronze stag door knocker, and feel transported to an alpine chalet. The Understudy has transformed into a Ski Lodge, offering romantic candlelight, faux fur throws and themed food and drink. The Understudy Ski Lodge is open for walk-ins throughout the winter season on Fridays and Saturdays, from 5pm till late.

The Understudy Ski Lodge
Feel like you’ve finished a day on the slopes by wandering into this hidden chalet. This intimate sanctuary features imaginary fireplaces, vintage alpine artwork and even the warm scent of pine, cedarwood and subtle tobacco.
Find nostalgic drinks inspired by the alpine regions of Europe on the carefully crafted cocktail menu. Highlights include Winter’s Orchard, a blend of Talisker Single Malt with Pink Lady Cider, spiced syrups and cassis, served warm in ceramic cups. For a decadent and comforting drink, try Chalet Noir, which features bourbon, hazelnut, chai and stout, served with grated chocolate in an egg-shaped glass.

For something non-alcoholic, there’s the Snowbunny Cider, made with non-alcoholic cider and bourbon, as well as Rooibos tea, bakery spice, ginger and lemon. You could also go for a classic hot cocoa, which can be boozy if you’re feeling cheeky.

Meanwhile, you’ll find a comforting variety of snacks, share plates and winter warmers. Start with sourdough with French butter, and graze on curated cheese and charcuterie boards. For something a little heartier, you’ll find Korean-style fried chicken, pork sliders, Moroccan-spiced halloumi and more. If you’ve got a sweet tooth, you can’t miss the rich chocolate fondue for two, served with strawberries, wafers and marshmallows.
