Soul, its story and the show
Born from a blend of gospel songs that were adapted to have a secular meaning, and rhythm and blues, soul music originated in African-American communities throughout the United States in the late 1950s and early 1960s. Artists like Sam Cooke, Ray Charles and Aretha Franklin pioneered the genre, but by the 1970s, skilled jazz musicians who could also make great pop and funk music, like the Motown crowd, gave voice to a generation seeking change.
Besides the groovy beats and heartfelt lyrics, soul’s lasting impact lies in its ability to connect universally. This tribute to soul legends will sweep you into joy, love and heartbreak, taking on songs by Marvin Gaye, Wilson Pickett, Al Green, and more, including “Let’s Get It On” and “Mustang Sally”.
No matter your background or experience in music, everyone and anyone can understand soul. It’s in the name, after all. Soul has the ability to convey deep emotions and a sense of authenticity and raw honesty so this night of soul music is an evening plan you won’t want to miss.
