After dazzling us last year with Maho Magic Bar and Love Lust Lost, Broad Encounters is coming back to Melbourne with another round of immersive theatre. Get ready for When Night Comes, a multisensory performance for small groups only. This intimate experience mixes theatre and cocktails to create an alluring new experience. This mysterious production will take over an intimate section of The Austral Theatre in Collingwood from June 11 to 29, and from July 2 to August 3.
When Night Comes
Unlike the large-scale production Love Lust Lost, which took place at the same venue last year, When Night Comes will be a cosier affair. Set in a bacchanalian world, you’ll be transported to new places alongside a cast of ethereal characters.
“Those who have experienced our work know that we love to engage on a sensory level, including beyond the physiological, and When Night Comes sees us exercising this in fresh lyrical ways,” said Creative Director Kirsten Siddle. “The night will afford visitors the opportunity to revel in marvellous other worlds, other states, other lives – an escape from the ordinary and the chance at extraordinary.”
In this immersive experience, you’ll be guided from room to room by the characters. Watch the performances and sip on a drink or two. You might be invited to interact with the performers, but you can choose to simply observe.
The production does include a number of cocktails and, for some audience members, edible goods. If you prefer, you can choose to have mocktails instead. Drinks are prepared in advance, so you will need to choose either the alcoholic or non-alcoholic option when booking your ticket. If you need an extra bit of liquid courage, there will also be a bar onsite, serving up cocktails and drinks before and after each show.
