Have you ever been lucky enough to see the Carrot Man? This quirky part of Melbourne is just as described, a man simply walking around town, holding a comically large carrot. After causing plenty of light-hearted confusion over the years, he’s been spotted enough times that he’s become a local celebrity, like the Green Lady of Brooklyn or Speedo Mick in the UK.
Carrot Man
Known simply as Nathan, he’s been carrying his giant carrot around for over 13 years.
“I found a big radish at an op shop, and I was walking home with it and I noticed some people’s smiles, so I just began carrying large vegetables and eventually I made the carrot,” said Nathan. “More people smile with the carrot, so I just became the Carrot Man.”
He’s gone through at least 21 papier-mâché carrots, and he carries it almost every day.
