Autumn is such a beautiful time of year, bursting with vibrant gardens like Alfred Nicholas Memorial Gardens in the Dandenong Ranges, and Forest Glade Gardens in the Macedon Ranges. And, if you love pairing them with a historic estate, then there’s one open day that you should definitely add to your calendar. Travel to the picturesque Wombat Park Estate, and watch as the grand avenues and enchanting gardens are set ablaze with autumn splendour. You’ll find it tucked away in Daylesford, just 90 minutes away from Melbourne. The autumn open garden will take place on Saturday, May 16 and Sunday, May 17.

Autumn open garden at Wombat Park Estate
Take the rare opportunity to explore the grounds of this magnificent estate. Established over 170 years ago, you’ll have a grand time meandering around the sprawling lawns and shady forests.
Follow the elm-lined avenue to the ivy-covered house, and soak in the rich red, gold and amber hues. Wander beneath the canopies of towering trees, like oaks, beeches, chestnuts and walnuts. Feel the autumn leaves crunch beneath your feet as you amble through the Deciduous Forest, where you’ll find ancient Japanese maples, liquidambars and hornbeams. Against the brightly coloured leaves, you’ll also see the deep green contrast of the proud conifers.

Stroll along the pathways through the different lawns. On the sunken croquet lawn, you’ll find a cheerful country market. Food, drinks and local produce will be available to purchase.
Tickets are $33.08, including the booking fee. Children under 10 can enter for free, as long as they’re with an adult. Dogs are not permitted. You can purchase a ticket at the gate, but to avoid queues, it’s best to order it online instead.
