Melbourne’s beloved floating bar and restaurant, Afloat, is coming out of hibernation in just a few weeks. Back for its eleventh year, this seasonal venue has whisked us away to sun-drenched destinations in the past, from the Balearic Islands off the coast of Spain, to sun-kissed Capri in Italy and the vibrancy of Copacabana in Rio de Janeiro. This time, the venue is transporting us from the Yarra River to the glittering islands of Greece! Afloat will reopen to the public on Thursday, August 27.

Yamas Greece at Afloat
This venue is taking its seasonal name from the Greek toast, meaning “to our health”. Afloat will transform itself with a brand new look, and take inspiration from the country’s coastal colours and fresh flavours.
“We wanted to bring that same warmth and effortless beauty to Afloat through natural textures, sun-washed terracotta and the distinctive blue-and-white palette of the Islands,” said interior designer Emily Jamieson.

Sip your way through summer with their extensive drinks menu, which will feature new seasonal cocktails, local and international wines and returning favourites.
“This year we’re showcasing a selection of Greek wines, with a focus on native grape varieties, from fresh, vibrant whites and roses to medium-bodied aromatic reds,” said Marcus Ellis, HQ Group Head of Wine.
The cocktails will also have a reimagined Greek twist, such as an ouzo frozen cola, a Long Island Iced Tea, featuring a Greek mountain tea, or a sangria made with Moschofilero Greek wine.

As for the food, look forward to new dishes inspired by the produce used in Greek cuisine.
“Our new menu dishes are inspired by travels and time spent working in Greece, drawing references from beach clubs, street vendors, tavernas and everything in between,” said HQ Group Executive Chef Paul Dunlop. “Expect to see fresh local seafood, grilled meats, meze, gyros and beloved Greek sweets.”
