Theatre fans, film lovers and really anyone craving a night of adventure should head straight for the box office, as ANASTASIA The Broadway Musical is now playing in Melbourne for the first time but only until 20 February. Packed with romance, adventure and self discovery, this is one production you won’t want to miss.
Inspired by the rumours of Grand Duchess Anastasia Romanov’s escape in the early days of the Russian Revolution, as well as the beloved animated film, this Broadway sensation has made its Australian premiere at the Regent Theatre. Follow Anya as she tries to discover the mystery of her past, along with the help of a dashing conman and a lovable ex-aristocrat.

ANASTASIA The Musical
This lavish musical premiered on Broadway in 2017. It played to sold-out audiences for three years, and has wowed crowds in Germany, Spain, The Netherlands, Brazil, Mexico and Japan. After it plays in Melbourne, it will go on to Perth and Sydney.
“The legend of Anastasia has intrigued the world for many years,” said producer John Frost AM. “It’s a story full of mystery and romance with a magnificent score that I know Australia is going to fall in love with.”

Look forward to a soaring score, as well as unforgettable songs from the animated film, such as Once Upon a December, Journey to the Past and A Rumour in St. Petersburg. There’s also new songs to listen to, including the ballad In My Dreams, sung wonderfully by Georgina Hopson in the role of Anya, and Land of Yesterday, brought to life by Rhonda Burchmore (playing Countess Lily) and the ensemble.

Georgina Hopson and Robert Tripolino are lovely as Anya and con artist Dmitry, while Rodney Dobson and Rhonda Burchmore make a funny pair as Vlad and Countess Lily. Nancye Hayes AM is regal as the Dowager Empress, and Joshua Robson brings some complexity as Gleb.
The costumes, designed by Linda Cho, are sumptuous, and the setting is brought to life with a backdrop of screen projections.
