The Australia’s Wine List of the Year Awards were held last night, and one Melbourne venue was crowned as Australia’s Wine List of the Year. The top spot was given to Gimlet at Cavendish House, who also took out the awards for Best Wine List in Victoria, Australia’s Best Restaurant Wine List – City and the Sommeliers’ Choice Award. As the sommelier responsible for curating the wine list, Gimlet’s Anthony Pieri also won the Judy Hirst Award. If you’re keen to try the wine for yourself, Gimlet at Cavendish House is open daily for lunch and dinner, as well as supper on Fridays and Saturdays.
Australia’s Wine List of the Year Awards 2024
The awards have been around for 31 years, and they honour the time, skill and resources that go into developing excellent wine lists. The judging panel is made up of over 30 industry professionals from Australia and overseas. These experts include Master Sommeliers, Masters of Wine, wine writers and more. A pair of judges assesses each wine list independently and confidentially, and the entries are evaluated based on content, balance, suitability to the venue, presentation and pricing.
The win by Gimlet marks the first time that a Victorian venue has won the top spot since 2021.
“The Gimlet list artfully blends the great and the good with a dose of variety and complexity,” said Judge Andrew Graham. “The selection by the glass here is exceptional, with a nice blend of essential drinks versus indulgences.”
