Over the weekend, Ballarat’s Best Pie for 2025 was announced an an awards ceremony. This winner this year is the sweet Mrs Browne Bakes’ raspberry goldfields pie at Naomi & i. This tasty treat was declared the winner after a judging panel looked at 36 sweet and savoury options. You can try all 36 pies throughout the whole month of August.
Ballarat’s Best Pie 2025
Try the pies for yourself at cafes, bakeries, bars and restaurants around Ballarat. If you have a favourite, you can vote for the People’s Choice Pie. Voting is open until August 31, and all entries will go in the draw to win a luxurious escape in Ballarat.

Winning pies
Ballarat’s Best Pie and Best Sweet Pie – Mrs Browne Bakes’ raspberry goldfields cookie pie at Naomi & i. This delectable treat features a rich and creamy tangy raspberry drop filling, inside a double chocolate cookie shell. It’s finished with white chocolate, crushed raspberries and gold shimmer.
2nd place – Peach and Portuguese custard pie at Lydiard General. This pie includes warm custard and poached peaches in a sweet and buttery shortcrust pastry. It’s dusted with icing sugar.
3rd place – Apple sty pie at Mondegreen Cafe. Enjoy warm maple apple in a bacon fat shortcrust, topped with maple candied bacon and creamy maple bacon ice cream.

Best Savoury Pie and Brilliantly Unexpected Pie – Lechon paksiw pie at Hotel Canberra’s Stables Cafe & Bar. This pie features roasted Western Plains pork, simmered in aromatics, vinegar and bay leaves. It’s topped with pork crackling crumble and wrapped in banana leaf.
Best Bakery Pie – Beef rendang pie at Turret Bakehouse. Find a hearty beef rendang inside a housemade butter and beef tallow pastry.
Pie with Purpose – Feral Pie at The Shared Table. Try slow-braised wild venison and mushrooms with a red wine, juniper berry and caramelised shallot sauce, inside a thyme and rosemary pastry.
