Film buffs, this one’s for you! IMAX Melbourne is running their inaugural Best Biggest IMAX Film Festival (BBIFF) this summer. Look forward to a range of films that showcase the giant screen and surround sound. Highlights include a re-release of Oppenheimer, as well as other beloved films like The Lord of the Rings trilogy and The Dark Knight trilogy. The festival kicks off on Friday January 12.
Best Biggest IMAX Film Festival
Many of the films in this season will feature IMAX-exclusive expanded aspect ratios of 1.9 and 1.43. Both Oppenheimer and The Dark Knight trilogy will be presented on Australia’s only IMAX 1570 film prints. These have a native resolution of up to 16K, the highest resolution film format available.
If you missed out on Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer earlier this year, this is your chance to see it on a truly massive scale. This film was the highest-grossing movie in IMAX Melbourne’s history, with over 66,000 tickets sold and 171 sold-out sessions.
Look forward to a double feature of Blade Runner and Blade Runner 2049 as part of their Opening Night Gala. Join Frodo, Sam, Gandalf and more on their journey through Middle-Earth in The Lord of the Rings. Experience the wonders of 3D with Tron: Legacy and Avatar: The Way of Water. Soar through the clouds in a double-feature of Top Gun. And much more.
“BBIFF is bringing back classic movies that need to be witnessed on the biggest screen in the southern hemisphere,” said Jeremy Fee, IMAX Melbourne General Manager. “We’ve put together an impressive line-up of the best and biggest trilogies, double-headers and special one-off screenings.”
The Best Biggest IMAX Film Festival will run from January 12 and continue on into February. Tickets go on sale on Thursday December 21.
