How were the rankings calculated?
The rankings are based on Google Maps listings collected on 5th October, 2026, covering McDonald’s restaurants across Australia.
Researchers initially identified 1,027 listings before removing duplicates, corporate offices, closed restaurants and listings that didn’t meet the selection criteria.
The final ranking included 887 open McDonald’s restaurants with at least 500 Google reviews each, representing 1,459,622 reviews in total.
Rather than relying on Google’s rounded star ratings, researchers calculated each restaurant’s exact average using its one- to five-star review counts. This allowed them to separate restaurants that displayed the same rating. Where two restaurants had identical averages, the one with the higher proportion of one-star reviews ranked lower.
For now, Pakenham South takes the crown as Victoria’s best-rated Macca’s, with an average of 3.92 stars from 1,058 Google reviews.
