Melbourne’s Stunning Candlelight Concerts Include Jazz, Pop And Rock Tributes This Summer

Concerts by Candlelight have invited Melburnians to relive the greatest works of classical music, from Vivaldi to Mozart to Bach, in an intimate atmosphere and experience music in a new light at some of Melbourne’s most stunning venues.

But wait because now there’s more than just classical music on offer. Much, much more. And Valentine’s Day is just around the corner, too.

If vintage classical music isn’t quite your jam, then no worries because the Candlelight series has upped the offering with tribute concerts to some of Jazz’s most celebrated artists like Aretha Franklin, Louis Armstrong, Nina Simone, Duke Ellington and more.

There’s also a tribute to the legendary band Queen as well as French electronic music masters Daft Punk on the cards. You will also be able to soundtrack your night with musical scores from anime favourites as well as be able to relive magical movie moments from The Lion King, Mulan and The Jungle Book.

The grapevine has also heard that even more Candlelight performances for ABBA, and tributes to other iconic artists, are in the pipeline. One living artist that is already cementing her place among the pantheon of greats is Taylor Swift. Love her or hate her, her popularity is undeniable and her songwriting talent is sneakily complex. She also gets a tribute concert basked in the glow of candles this summer.cellist performing at Candlelight concert

Melbourne’s first Candlelight concerts featured Vivaldi’s Four Seasons, Beethoven’s Best Works, and Chopin’s Best Works, all played by the most talented classical musicians.

Don’t worry if you missed out because there are still plenty of upcoming dates where you will be able to experience the compositions of these master composers. There are also tributes to the Italian maestro Ludovico Einaudi coming up.

There are plenty more special and unique concerts by Candlelight coming up, including Candlelight festive concerts and ballet performances, which should definitely not be missed.

The Candlelight series takes place twice each night with two back-to-back 60-65 minute performances. Doors open 30 minutes prior to each show and no late entry is permitted so as to not disturb the serene setting inside.

The concerts, which have taken place at venues like The Athenaeum and The Astor Theatre as well as The Timber Yard, the Meat Market and St James’ Old Cathedral, have been met with countless 5-star reviews. Guests have said that the evenings are “a creative, enchanting, and new concert experience” and that “the performers were fantastic!”

Take a look at all the concerts below and grab your tickets before somebody else does.

Please note: For the safety of the performers and audience, all of the candlelight will be provided through flameless candles.
