In the middle of the grounds and community garden of the historic Como House & Garden, you’ll find a charming new cafe to try. Say hello to Como Lane, the first cafe from Scott Pickett Group, the same team behind other beloved venues like Estelle, Smith St Bistro and Longrain. This dreamy cafe is housed in what were once the old gardeners’ sheds, and is split between a cosy indoor area and an alfresco space. Wander in for a relaxed breakfast or lunch, or swing by for some grab-and-go items. Como Lane is now open, and is available for both bookings and walk-ins.
Como Lane
Step through the grand iron gates on Como Avenue, and enjoy a bite to eat at the Parisian-style cafe. The food here features fresh ingredients from both local producers as well as the estate’s own garden. Settle in on one of the rattan chairs and take in the tranquil scenery. Then, tuck into some delightful dishes, like buttermilk pancakes with stone fruit, whipped crème fraîche and lemon myrtle; chill scrambled eggs with Longrain’s signature XO sauce; wagyu burger and fries; mushroom and goat’s cheese quiche and more. There’s also a variety of sandwiches available for both dine-in and takeaway, as well as a kids menu for the little ones.
To drink, you can enjoy coffee from Merchant Coffee Roasters, hot chocolate, tea, chai latte and cold pressed juices from Market Juice.
The grab-and-go offering will eventually expand to become a boutique market and retail section. Drop by for a takeaway coffee and pastry, then purchase fresh flowers, jams, preserves and other food items made in-house and from local producers.
Como House & Garden is a popular place for weddings and functions, so the cafe also has catering packages if you’re celebrating something special. Como Lane seats up to 60 guests both indoors and outdoors, and is bookable for private events. You can also purchase picnic hampers to enjoy in the grounds.
Scott Pickett Group has partnered with the National Trust of Australia (Victoria), so the cafe will host events such as flower workshops, high teas and cultural activities throughout the year.
The cafe is open Monday to Saturday from 9am to 3pm and on Sunday from 10am to 3pm.
