Pink Floyd’s sprawling soundscapes will take over Melbourne’s Hamer Hall this September when ECLIPSE—Pink Floyd Orchestrated returns for a performance on Saturday, 18th September.
Following its sold-out 2024 national tour, the production returns on a larger scale, bringing 60 musicians and singers together for a sweeping mix of symphonic power, rock performance and visual spectacle.
The concert will feature the Southern Cross Symphony alongside a full rock band, three vocalists and a 20-voice youth choir, recreating the scale and atmosphere of Pink Floyd’s music in the Opera House’s grand Concert Hall.
From Time to Comfortably Numb
Guitar legend Jack Jones (Irwin Thomas) will join the ensemble for a set spanning some of Pink Floyd’s best-known songs, including the hypnotic Time, Us and Them, Wish You Were Here, Another Brick in the Wall and Comfortably Numb.
Instead of simply reproducing the original recordings, ECLIPSE builds them into a large-scale live performance, layering orchestral arrangements with electric guitar, keyboards, saxophone, vocals and choir.
The production features Australian performers including vocalists Zkye Compson-Harris, Natalie Ermer and Emily Kelly; saxophonist Adam Page; guitarists and vocalists Cam Blokland and Dave Pagano; keyboardist and musical director Paul White; drummer Ben Todd; and bassist Warwick Cheatle.
A Pink Floyd show built for the Opera House
Co-producer and Southern Cross Symphony director Warwick Cheatle says the scale of the production allows audiences to experience Pink Floyd’s music with the power and depth of a full live ensemble.
“Pink Floyd created music of enormous dimension—music that expands, surrounds you and takes you somewhere else,” Cheatle says. “With 60 musicians and singers on stage, the sound rises from an entire orchestra, a rock band, three extraordinary vocalists and a youth choir. Add the lighting and visual presentation, and the result will be immense.”
The production takes its name from Eclipse, the closing track on Pink Floyd’s landmark 1973 album The Dark Side of the Moon. The title reflects the show’s focus on the band’s distinctive combination of music, spectacle, philosophy and emotion.
ECLIPSE previously played the Sydney Opera House in 2024, with audience member Therese E describing that performance as “sheer brilliance” and “one of the best concerts I have been to.” This time, the production returns with an expanded ensemble and an ambitious orchestral presentation designed to give Pink Floyd’s music a new sense of scale.
