It’s been a crazy year of free gigs at Fed Square so far, with notable artists like Robbie Williams, Kneecap, Caribou, Glass Beams and more taking the stage. And now, there’s another exciting and free show for you to look forward to, this time, taking place on the eve of the AFL Grand Final. Get ready to cheer for cult Melbourne band, Eddy Current Suppression Ring, who will perform at Fed Square after a 15-year hiatus. This will be their first-ever free show, and it’s all happening on Friday September 26.

Eddy Current Suppression Ring at Fed Square
This will be a rare headline show from the legendary garage-punk band. Their last major appearance was at Dark Mofo in Hobart in 2016, and their last headline act in Melbourne was at The Palace in 2010.
“Eddy Current Suppression Ring is a band woven into the fabric of Melbourne’s music history,” said Fed Square Director of Programming Sarah Tutton. “We’re delighted to welcome them back to the city for what promises to be a truly unforgettable night at Fed Square, continuing our commitment to creating unmissable free, all-ages events that celebrate the best of local and international music, right in the heart of Melbourne.”
This underground band started after a spontaneous jam session in 2003. Notable records include Primary Colours (2008), which won the Australian Music Prize, and Rush to Relax (2010), which hit the ARIA Top 20. It was also named in the 100 Best Australian Albums of All Time. They’ve just launched their new EP, Shapes and Forms, earlier this month.

Other artists on the line-up include Melbourne-based duo Wrong Way Up, who will kick off the gig with their rhythmic blend of Afro-disco, ’70s synth-funk and experimental electronics. You can also look forward to a performance from EDAN, who is coming to Melbourne all the way from New York. Look forward to a psychedelic experience that’s part rap show and part spaced-out beats.
The concert will take place on a public holiday, so you don’t have to worry about missing out. It’s all happening from 7pm to 10:30pm on Friday September 26. Find out more here.
