Last year, the sparkling Trail of Lights opened in Mildura. Created by artist Bruce Munro, this twinkling attraction features 12,500 glowing ‘firefly lights’ on Lock Island. And soon, a highly-anticipated, second installation is about to open to the public. Hop just across the border to Wentworth in New South Wales, and check out the massive Fibre Optic Symphonic Orchestra (FOSO). This world-first experience will open to the public on Friday April 24.
Fibre Optic Symphonic Orchestra in Wentworth
Escape to the dunes of Perry Sandhills, just 30 minutes away from Mildura, and marvel at the stunning art installation. Inspired by Australian landscapes, you’ll see 80 Hills Hoist clotheslines arranged to resemble an orchestra pit.

Each Hills Hoist is decked out with fibre optic lights, representing different musical instruments. The lights are synchronised to an original orchestral score by Emmy award-winning composer Nainita Desai. As you go through the space, you’ll feel entranced by the vibrant colours, and swept away by the music.
“FOSO is more than an attraction; it is a unique cultural experience that highlights the beauty of Wentworth Shire and invites visitors to explore our region,” said Wentworth Mayor, Cr Daniel Linklater.
While you’re there, swing by the licensed bar for a drink or light refreshments.

FOSO has been created as a complementary experience to the Trail of Lights in Mildura. Both installations were created by notable international artist Bruce Munro, who is also behind the famous Field of Light in Uluru.
It’s about six hours away from Melbourne by car, or a one hour flight.
