One of Australia’s highest-altitude pieces of public artwork has officially launched at Falls Creek. Located above 1,600 metres in elevation, and standing at over ten metres tall, this brightly-coloured sculpture also serves as a lookout to the stunning Alpine National Park. Titled, Flower of the Alpine Sun, this installation was designed by internationally recognised artist Gio Veronesi, and was constructed in Ballarat. You’ll find Flower of the Alpine Sun across from Halley’s Comet chairlift and the Cloud 9 Restaurant.

This magnificent structure is perched high up on the mountain, near the Cloud 9 restaurant, which was redeveloped just last year. As a looking platform, it delivers dramatic views of the alpine landscape. Follow the walkway out onto the suspended platform, and look out across the Kiewa Valley and the Bogong High Plains.
Appearing as a golden orb, the sculpture is part alpine flower and part sun, bringing warmth and light to this corner of the mountain. It can be experienced in all seasons, inviting you to return and admire the shifting landscapes from winter to summer.
“The Flower of the Alpine Sun is a remarkable addition to Falls Creek, giving visitors a new place to pause, take in the scenery and connect with the unique Alpine environment,” said Colleen Gwynne, General Manager of Falls Creek Alpine Resorts Victoria. “We’re proud to welcome guests with an experience that adds to the resort year-round.”
The lookout was delivered as part of a $10 million Alpine Business Support Package from the state government.
When you’re not looking at the landscape, pop in to Cloud 9 and warm up with a coffee or a woodfired pizza.
