The fabulous FoMo Cinemas opened earlier this year in East Brunswick Village. In this cool space, films and food collide to create one enjoyable experience. This concept, inspired by traditions from Brooklyn’s Nitehawk Cinema and the iconic Alamo Drafthouse, allows you to enjoy blockbuster movies while feasting on delicious dishes from a chef-designed menu. And for eight special days, they’re selling $8 tickets to all sessions.
Films on offer include the latest releases, like Furiosa, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes and The Garfield Movie. If you’re looking for something different, there’s also arthouse titles, classics and special screenings to look forward to.
The affordable $8 sessions will run over the last eight days of May, from Friday May 24 to Friday May 31. Tickets are on sale now.
FoMo Cinemas
The venue is co-founded by Cinema Nova’s Barry Peak and Natalie Miller AO, who wanted to run a cinema for movie lovers by movie lovers. Your journey starts in the foyer, which takes inspiration from Blade Runner, and is filled with neon artworks and retro-futurist styling. There’s six theatres to choose from, and the venue has a total capacity of 392 seats. All of the cinemas have high quality projection and sound design, and two of them have 3D capabilities.
Food and drink
The menu was carefully designed by Head Chef Darren Collier to complement the theatre experience. Look forward to antipasto and cheese platters, New York-inspired deli sandwiches, fried bites, burger combos, hand-stretched pizzas and plenty of desserts. There’s also candy bar snacks, such as chocolate, popcorn, choc tops and crisps. For drinks, there will be plenty of soft drinks, cocktails and local beers, including a custom made FoMo beer by Bridge Road Brewers.
“Natalie and I have wanted to run a cinema that combines a movie with a meal for a long time,” said Peak. “When I’m in the US I love going to the Nighthawk, Alamo and Syndicated cinemas with their no-fuss dining at standard prices. Finally, technology allows that here, and FoMo is the result.”
You can order food in advance, or during the film, with a cash-free interface at each cinema chair. You can also order food and drink from the foyer bar. All of the theatres have been designed to accommodate prompt and discreet service throughout the movie.
You’ll have lots of time to check out the menu during the pre-show reel, which has interactive elements, such as quizzes and trivia, as well as heaps of nostalgic movie moments. There won’t be any ads played before the show, except for movie trailers.
You’ll find the cinema within East Brunswick Village, a shopping and lifestyle precinct.
