Unfortunately for us, Australia has the highest incidences of food allergies in the world, and Melbourne is the country’s allergy capital. This can make dining out tricky and stressful. Whether you’re allergic to peanuts, have coeliac disease or you’re on a FODMAP diet, going out to eat will become much easier thanks to the launch of the Foodini dining app. This app matches you with restaurants and menus that are suitable for your dietary needs. Catering to over 40 dietary requirements, including all mandatory allergens, this app should make your next night out a little bit easier.
Foodini app
This app was founded in 2020 by Dylan McDonnell. Diagnosed with coeliac disease at 10 years old, he decided to start Foodini after years of unpleasant dining experiences.
“Food is the body’s fuel source and it’s also a key part of culture, gatherings, socialising and celebrating which I believe everyone should enjoy,” said McDonnell. “Our app allows all people, regardless of their needs, to enjoy the experience of dining out with comfort and confidence using reliable, transparent and credible information.”
Users can create a profile detailing their specific needs, such as being a vegan or lactose-intolerant. They’ll be matched with dietician-reviewed restaurants, cafes and other venues in the area, and will receive an exact breakdown on what they can eat on each menu. Meanwhile, restaurants are onboarded to the app under the review of accredited, practising dieticians, who review and upload the menus.
On the platform, you’ll find some familiar Melbourne favourites, like Squires Loft, Stalactites, Farro Pizzeria and Serotonin.
The Foodini app is free to download, and is currently helping diners in both Melbourne and Sydney. Brisbane and the majority of Australia will be added by the end of the year.
