Back in the day, Footscray’s central precinct once had four cinemas within 500m of each other. They were La Scala, Trocadero, the Grand and Barkly Theatres. The last of these cinemas closed in 1987. To give us a blast from the past, a pop-up cinema is coming to Footscray, showcasing nostalgic mix of 80s and 90s classics, local favourites, DJs and drinks. Footscray Flix will run from Thursday, August 27 to Sunday, August 30.

Footscray Flix
Step into a custom-built, pop-up cinema with 100 seats, and enjoy a night at the movies. On opening night, you can look forward to films shot in Melbourne’s west, including The Big Steal, which was filmed in Footscray, and Mad Max, which used locations around the western suburbs. Between the two movies, there will also be a free pizza party, and a drink to go with your ticket.
Other films on the line-up include Dazed and Confused, Trainspotting, ET, Alien and Blade Runner.

The final night will be all about Patrick Swayze, starting with Dirty Dancing and ending with Point Break. Double bill tickets for this are available, and include a free drink at the closing party.
After every cinema session, DJs will play film-inspired soundtracks.
Seating is not allocated, so it’s first in, best dressed.
Before the show, enjoy a drink from Barbarian Brewing. Hang around Footscray for a bite somewhere nearby, like Harry and Larry’s General Store, Slice Girls West or Back Alley Sally’s.
