Sydney Festival dropped its massive 2023 program today and there’s a lot to look forward to. If you fancy a trip up there for the summer holidays, expect faux beaches, immersive performances, live music and more. Perhaps the biggest coup for the festival is a major Frida Kahlo exhibition titled Frida Kahlo: Life of an Icon taking over The Cutaway, Barangaroo this January.
Frida Kahlo: Life of an Icon
Art lovers are in for a treat with this gorgeous new experience, celebrating one of the 20th century’s most influential artists. This exhibition is no ordinary one – its immersive and multisensory nature will transport you into a dreamy world. We’re talking dazzling holography and immersive 360-degree projections. Plus there’s live Mexican music performances and VR technology that promises to transport you straight to some of Kahlo’s most recognised works. And that’s not all. You can create your own flower crowns at the venue, turn your drawings into Frida-esque artwork and souvenir illustrated photo opportunities.
Co-created by the Frida Kahlo Corporation and the renowned Spanish digital arts company Layers of Reality, Frida Kahlo: Life of an Icon, will be a Sydney exclusive. Kahlo’s iconic portraits, self-portraits, and works have remained beloved over the years and a huge source of inspiration for artists over the generations.
Other exhibitions to look forward to at the Sydney Festival include Paul Yore’s Word Made Flesh and The Lucid: A Dream Portal to Awakening by American artist Kelsey Lu and Thea Anamara Perkins: Stockwoman. Check out the full line-up of events here.
