We can’t get enough of sunflowers, and if you’ve already been to the farm near Ballarat, and you’re looking for a change of scene, why don’t you head over to the Yarra Valley and check out the sunflower field, Girasole? Go sunflower picking through the field and enjoy a picnic while you’re there. You’ll find it in Wandin East, just one hour away from Melbourne. The field is currently open on weekends, and bookings online are required.
Girasole in the Yarra Valley
Wander through the towering rows, take photos among the flowers and pick your own blooms to take home. You will need to bring your own secateurs to snip the flowers, otherwise, secateurs are available to hire at an extra $5. You should also bring a bucket with you to store your sunflowers.
If you’d like to stay a little longer, pack a picnic rug and some lunch, and graze on your meal while admiring the bright blooms. There are toilets available on-site, as well as rubbish bins if you need. Dogs are welcome to come along too.
As this is an outdoor activity, remember to wear a hat, water, sunscreen and insect repellent, as well as sensible closed shoes for the farm.
Tickets to visit the farm are $10 for adults and free for children under 12. Flowers are $6 per stem, or $30 for a bunch of 6. There’s no limit to how many sunflowers you choose to take home.
This is a seasonal event, so keep an eye on their social media to be sure of opening dates.
