The spooky season is almost here, and if you’re looking for things to do on Halloween, why don’t you spend a night at the museum? Melbourne Museum is throwing a supernatural soiree, filled with haunting tunes, chilling activities and tempting treats. You’re welcome to dress up in costume, or come as you are. Halloween at the Museum will take place on October 31, from 6pm to 11pm.
Halloween at the Museum
Your journey begins through a fog-filled garden. Find giant puppets lurking about in a haunted forest, filled with giant insects and a fearsome T-Rex. Then, trick-or-treat your way through the museum and collect limited-edition cards and goodies.
Families will have plenty to do between 6 and 8:30pm. Learn all about weird science and frightening physics with a Scienceworks stage, and hear tales that are stranger that fiction in the Campfire Stories section. Museum experts will also be out and about, ready to chat about all sorts of curious creatures, like vampire squids and zombie wasps, as well as creepy museum artefacts.
On the dance floor, you’ll hear the eerie sounds of Miles Brown on the theramin, the only instrument in the world that is played without being touched. Later in the night, The Night Terrors will take the stage to play some otherworldly tunes. DJ Blackscale will also make an appearance, playing a mix of Halloween-inspired classics and dance floor favourites.
From 8:30pm onwards, the night will take a turn. Step into a haunted 1920s cinema, and feel spooked by a curated collection of clips from The Melbourne Horror Film Society. Then, embark on a ghost tour through the museum.
At 9:30pm, IMAX will run a special screening of The Babadook, marking the 10th anniversary of this psychological horror.
If you’re feeling peckish, the Vampire Bites Cafe will be serving up Halloween-inspired burgers, pizzas, salads, soft serves and cocktails throughout the night. Upgrade your experience to the VIP Halloween Bar and Lounge for a cocktail on arrival, a surprise gift, a grazing table, private bar and bespoke entertainment.
