We just love seeing, patting and cuddling cute animals, and if you’d like to hang out with some adorably fluffy Highland cows, you’re in luck! There’s a farm just 55 minutes away from Melbourne CBD that offers just that. Mosey on over to Haukhill Highlands in Whittlesea, where you can brush and cuddle sweet Highland cows, and cuddle up with the calves. This is a private experience, so you can ‘ooh’ and ‘aah’ over the cows as much as you want. This is quite a popular activity, so you’ll need to make a booking in advance.
Haukhill Highlands
Feel whisked away to the countryside, without being too far away from Melbourne, at this picturesque farm. They’ve got plenty of majestic, fully grown Highlands, complete with horns, for you to admire, as well as a range of adorable calves ranging from 3 to 8 months old.
During your private session, you’ll meet the breeding herd and learn all about their names, personalities and stories. Brush, feed and cuddle the animals, and meet the calves. If you’re a bit nervous, you can also meet the cattle from behind a fence. Find out more about what it takes to raise cattle, and ask as many questions as you like.
This experience provides plenty of opportunities for photos, and the team at Haukhill Highlands are happy to assist. If you’ve got something in mind for social media, like wearing flower crowns, they will help you out. Professional photo packages are also available.
If you’re only interested in meeting the calves, that’s cool too! There are dedicated calf cuddle sessions, where you can give them a brush and the cuddle. Morning sessions will also give you the opportunity to bottle feed them. This gentle experience is especially good for children, or for those with impaired mobility or special needs. There are hay bales to sit on, and the calves will come right up to you.
The farm also recently welcomed a couple of darling Valais Blacknose sheep. Also known as the ‘world’s cutest sheep’, this breed of sheep is known for their fluffy white wool, their dark faces and their friendly personality. The sheep will be steadily introduced to their experiences, so you’ll have even more adorable animals to fawn over.
The calf cuddle session runs for 45 minutes, and costs $170 for two people. Meanwhile, the private Highland experience runs for one hour, costs $250 for two people, and includes a calf cuddle session. Children aged 0 to 3 can come along for free.
