Melbourne is about to become home to one of the world’s most impressive dog destinations.
Dogs Victoria has unveiled plans for a $12 million transformation of KCC Park in Skye, creating what will become the Southern Hemisphere’s largest dedicated dog facility when it opens in early 2027.
Located around 35 kilometres south-east of the CBD, the 30-hectare site has long been a hub for dog sports and events. However, for the first time in its 44-year history, the entire park will be dedicated to dog-related activities, with everyday dog owners invited to use facilities that were previously only available through the organisation.
What’s coming to Melbourne’s biggest dog park?
The revamped precinct is designed to cater for dogs of all sizes, personalities and stamina. Plans include six purpose-built off-lead areas for different breeds and temperaments, including quieter spaces for dogs that prefer a little distance from the pack.
The redevelopment will also include:
- A five-kilometre walking track
- Dedicated dog sports facilities
- On-site grooming services
- Doggy daycare
- A lake where water-loving pups can cool off
The expansion also introduces a new Community Membership program, opening Dogs Victoria’s facilities, education programs and activities to all Victorian dog owners. Members will be able to access the off-lead zones, walking tracks, community events, behaviour training support and other perks, while also getting a pathway into dog sports across the state.
Opening the park to every Victorian dog owner
Dogs Victoria chief executive Kirk Edwards said the redevelopment marks a significant milestone for both the organisation and Victoria’s dog-owning community. “For the first time in 44 years, we will be utilising all 74 acres of KCC Park for dog-related activities and opening new opportunities for dog owners across Melbourne and Victoria to become involved.”
Moreover, he said the project is about “improving the wellbeing of dogs, supporting responsible dog ownership and creating a place where people and dogs can exercise, learn, socialise and participate together.”
As dog ownership continues to grow across Victoria, the new precinct aims to give owners access to purpose-built spaces where dogs can exercise safely, build confidence and take part in everything from casual walks to organised canine sports.
Dogs Victoria plans to open the expanded KCC Park in early 2027 and will reveal more details about construction milestones, membership options and access arrangements ahead of the launch.
