Feel whisked away from Melbourne to the idyllic European countryside at Lavandula Swiss Italian Farm. Nestled in rolling hills, just ten minutes away from Daylesford, this 100-acre property has historic stone buildings, fragrant lavender fields, fluffy Highland cows and more. After doing some major upgrades and repairs, this farm reopened to the public late last month. And now is a great time to check it out, as the lavender fields are in full bloom from January until early autumn.
Lavandula Swiss Italian Farm
Located on Dja Dja Wurrung country, this space was settled by Swiss-Italian farmers in the 1850s. Today, you can still find original stone buildings from the 1860s, such as the farmhouse and barn.
Wander around the paddocks, and meet all sorts of adorable farm animals, including Highland cows, alpacas, geese, emus, pheasants, guinea fowl and more. All of the lovely creatures on the farm makes this a great place to take the kids. This space is also pet-friendly, so well-behaved dogs are welcome to come along, as long as they’re on a leash. Please note, that dogs aren’t allowed in the indoor dining areas, and should never be left tied up and unattended.

While you’re outside, explore the European gardens and admire the pretty lavender fields. In summer, the lavender is gradually harvested and dried in the courtyard.
Pop into The Farm Shop near the main courtyard and find some lovely lavender products to take home, such as hand cream or essential oils. You’ll also find other beauty and wellness items, like soap, lotions, massage oils, face scrubs and more.
Next door to The Farm Shop, you’ll find the new Homestead Store. This space offers a selection of homewares, gifts and artisan pieces.

Food and drink
If you’re feeling hungry, there’s a few options for you to try. New to Lavandula Swiss Italian Farm is Tinetti’s Dairy & Wine Shoppe. This indoor wine bar is serving up a selection of locally-made wines, spritzes and digestifs. Spend your afternoon sipping on spritz, and pair it with local cheese or a grazing board. Other drinks, like lavender lemonade, herbal tea or a local spirit, are also available.
For something casual, check out the new Post Office Deli & Larder. Located in the original bluestone Post Office, this space is great if you’re looking for something to enjoy on-the-go. Think paninis, sausage rolls, sandwiches, lavender baked goods, and of course, coffee. You’ll also find items for your pantry, like jams, teas and sauces.
For a relaxed lunch, head to the cobbled courtyard for a bite at Maria’s Trattoria. Feast on seasonal produce, woodfired pizzas and afternoon treats, with ingredients taken straight from the kitchen garden. It’s best to make a booking for this experience.
You’re welcome to bring your own picnic to enjoy in the garden, but if you feel like being pampered, you can also pre-book a picnic. The picnic basket is designed for two people, and includes fresh bread, farmhouse cheese, a sweet treat, seasonal sides and a bottle of lavender lemonade.
