The gorgeous, after-dark experience, Lightscape, is back in the Royal Botanic Gardens for a third season. Wander through the green heart of Melbourne with a reimagined new trail that stretches across 2.2 kilometres. As you journey along the path, you’ll discover new shimmering installations, laser gardens, spectacular lights and more. Lightscape will illuminate Melbourne from Friday June 14 to Sunday August 4.
Lightscape
After dazzling visitors in the UK and US, Lightscape made its debut in Melbourne in 2022. With its colourful installations and glowing tunnels, it quickly became one of the must-do events of the winter season.
“The Gardens provide an exquisite canvas for us to create a magical world of light, nature and wonder,” said David Harland, Director and Chief Executive of Royal Botanic Gardens Victoria.
Whether you’ve seen it before, or you’re checking it out for the first time, you’ll feel delighted by some exciting new experiences.
Move through the immersive space, Submergence, and journey through thousands of suspended lights. The installation will shift and change in colour in response to your movement.
Admire the glow of illuminated pink blossom trees, dance in a laser garden and walk through the beloved Winter Cathedral.
There’s so much to take in, so it’s best to allow 90 minutes so that you can appreciate everything without feeling rushed.
Food and drink
There is a welcome zone stacked with food trucks, so you can grab a bite to eat before you go on the trail. Feast on tacos, barbeque sandwiches, meatball subs, baos, Greek donuts and more. On the trail itself, you’ll find carts serving up mulled wine and other drinks, as well as a cart serving up crème brûlée that’s torched-to-order.
Roughly halfway through the experience, you’ll find a variety of stalls serving up portable treats at the Terrace Food Hall. Enjoy pizza, BBQ skewers, dumplings, and even marshmallows that you can toast over an open fire pit.
For a heartier affair, Jardin Tan is also serving up an Asian-inspired three-course set menu, which can be enjoyed before or after you go on the Lightscape trail.
Lightscape will run from Wednesdays to Sundays. For more information, click here.
