The cancellations include the rest of Melbourne’s season, as well as performances scheduled for Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide.
The team behind Channing Tatum’s Magic Mike Live has cancelled all remaining Australian shows due to uncertainty about COVID-19. The show started its season in Melbourne at the end of June, but only a few weeks after opening, stopped their performances due to lockdown. Now, Magic Mike Live has been completely cancelled across all of Australia.
Magic Mike Live Cancelled
This isn’t the first event affected by the pandemic. Phantom of the Opera, which was meant to start in Melbourne this November, was pushed back to 2022. Meanwhile, both winter and regional editions of the Melbourne Food and Wine Festival have been cancelled. The Royal Melbourne Show was also cancelled for the second year in a row. And now, Mike is taking his Magic away from Australia.
“Everyone at Magic Mike Live is heartbroken to have to make this decision but we have been left with no choice,” said Executive Producer Vincent Marini. “The producers have provided millions of dollars in funding to support the production during the various closures to preserve the tour for our amazing Australian fans. After enduring four lockdowns and millions of dollars in refunds and cancellations, we simply can’t sustain a tour that has no opportunity to perform.”
After performing in Melbourne, Magic Mike Live was meant to bring the heat to Brisbane in November, then Perth and Adelaide in 2022.
Despite the cancellations, event organisers are hopeful that Magic Mike Live will return to Australia.
“Our performers, crew, management team and local industry partners in Australia have constantly amazed us with their talent, dedication, and resiliency,” said Marini. “Their hard work combined with the truly heart-warming reception we received from audiences in Sydney and Melbourne, make us hopeful that we can someday return to Australia and finish what we started.”
Furthermore, the team will do what they can to provide employment opportunities for the cast and crew in other performances around the world.
All ticketholders will receive full refunds and are advised to check their emails from Ticketmaster.
