Mamma Mia! The Musical
Set on a dreamy Greek island, this heart-warming tale centres around a young bride-to-be and her quest to discover the identity of her father. She secretly invites three men from her mother’s past to the island, and they arrive the night before the wedding, leading to silly shenanigans.

This joyous musical has been seen by over 65 million people around the world, and has been translated into over 20 languages. The new production is a restaging of the successful and critically-acclaimed show, which originally came to Melbourne in 2018. Whether you loved ABBA in their hey-day, or you’re a younger fan, this uplifting musical is great for the whole family.
The high-energy jukebox musical stars Sarah Krndija, the young bride-to-be, and Elise McCann as her mother Donna. The two actresses make a sweet pair, and the Slipping Through My Fingers performance was particularly touching. Krndija gives a charming performance throughout the show, and McCann pivots wonderfully between a confident mother and a vulnerable woman, surprised by the appearance of her ex.
Donna’s friends Rosie and Tanya are played by Bianca Bruce and Deone Zanotto, who were both crowd favourites. Their renditions of Take A Chance On Me and Does Your Mother Know were met with hearty applause and whoops of approval.

Sophie’s potential fathers, Sam, Harry and Bill, are played by Martin Crewes, Drew Livingston and Tim Wright. They all stand out in their own ways, with Livingston being particularly lovable and bumbling. Sophie’s fiancé Sky is played by Lewis Francis, and his energetic friends are played by Jordan Tomljenovic and Etuate Lutui.
This feel-good musical is absolutely stacked with fun sequences, from dancing men with flippers on their feet to ensemble performers chiming in from the windows. Feel like a Dancing Queen and have a boogie in your seat.
Mamma Mia! The Musical will stay in Melbourne until December 10.
