Melburnians are invited to gather at Fed Square, and break the world record for the largest cheerleading dance. Before the San Francisco 49ers take on the Los Angeles Rams, learn a cheer routine from the 49ers Gold Rush, the official cheer squad for the San Francisco team. The Melbourne Cheer Challenge will take place on Sunday, September 6.

Whether you’re a keen NFL fan, a dance lover or a nervous first-timer, you’re welcome to come along and have fun. Learn signature cheer moves from the 49ers Gold Rush, who are renowned for their athleticism, precision and high-energy performances. The squad have been inspiring fans for over 40 years, performing on game days at the 49ers’ home stadium in California.
This is a world record attempt for the largest cheerleading dance, and the number to beat is 1,371 people, a record set in Japan in 2015.

“This city is a sports-avid destination with a history of hosting some of the globe’s biggest sporting moments, and this record-breaking attempt will shine a spotlight on the energy, pride, and passion for sport that Melbourne is known for around the world,” said San Francisco 49ers Chief Marketing Officer Stephanie Rogers.
This is a free event, but you will need to register in advance. Once you register, you’ll receive confirmation with event details, updates, and the routine. On the day, you’ll receive a pair of red and gold pom poms for the dance, which you can keep as a playful souvenir.
The Melbourne Cheer Challenge will kick off NFL game week, with a Melbourne Kickoff Festival running from September 10 to 12, and the match itself taking over the MCG on Friday, September 11.
