
Pack up a picnic and prepare yourself for the perfect symphonic soirée. Melbourne Symphony Orchestra (MSO) is coming back with their free concerts at Sidney Myer Music Bowl this summer. Feel swept away by adventurous scores, listen to Gershwin under the stars and hear the world premiere of two new works. These free concerts will take place in February 2025.
Melbourne Symphony Orchestra
For over 90 years, Melbourne Symphony Orchestra has delighted the ears of Melburnians with their free concert series. 2025 will be no different. Over three nights in February, they’ll take over Sidney Myer Music Bowl for a perfect night of music.
Bookings are not required for the free concert series. Gates open at 5:30pm, with entry on a first-come, first-served basis. Once capacity is reached, the entry will be closed, so it’s best to arrive early if you don’t want to miss out.
You’re welcome to bring a picnic, and there will also be food and drink available for purchase at the venue.

Journeys and Adventures
When: Wednesday February 5 at 7:30pm
Embark on a musical odyssey, and let the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra whisk you down the Danube river, over Appalachian hills, to the Blue Mountains and beyond, to a galaxy far, far away. Expect scores from notable names like Bernstein and Copland, as well as familiar tunes from John Williams and Tchaikovsky.
Jaime conducts at the Bowl: Dvořák, Gershwin and Ravel
When: Saturday February 15 at 7:30pm
MSO Chief Conductor Jaime Martín will make is Sidney Myer Music Bowl debut. Listen to Dvořák’s Third Symphony, Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue and Ravel’s hypnotic Boléro.
Symphonic Showcase
When: Saturday February 22 at 7:30pm
Melbourne Youth Orchestra will start the night early with a curtain raiser at 6pm. After that, listen to two masterpieces from the 20th century, as well as the world premiere of two works.
