Melbourne Symphony Orchestra
For over 90 years, Melbourne Symphony Orchestra has delighted the ears of Melburnians with their free concert series. 2023 will be no different. Over three nights in February, they’ll take over Sidney Myer Music Bowl for a perfect night of music.
Here is the program:
A Tchaikovsky Spectacular
When: Wednesday February 8 at 7:30pm
Duration: 2 hours including interval
Experience the passionate music of Tchaikovski. This concert will feature some of his best work, including selections from Swan Lake, his 1812 Overture and Eugene Onegin: Polonaise.
Mosaics
When: Wednesday February 15 at 7:30pm
This incredible concert will champion Melbourne’s diversity. Four dynamic artists from Melbourne’s west will perform original works, developed in partnership with GRID Series. Meanwhile, Melissa Douglas will begin her tenure as Cybec Young Composer in Residence, with a fanfare commissioned especially for this concert series.
Finally, Sangam Ensemble will present Agam, three intertwined stories of Tamil Australians who live and work on unceded lands of the Kulin Nation. This intercultural performance frames music as dance, visuals and storytelling, to explore themes of marginality, home and belonging.
Carmina Burana
When: Saturday February 18 at 7:30pm
Duration: 2 hours including interval
The evening will start with a performance of Prokofiev’s acclaimed Piano Concerto No. 3. It will then climax with a dramatic and powerful performance of Carmina Burana, featuring the voices of the MSO Chorus.
