The counterculture movement of the 1960s was an incredible time for art and culture, as artists started to transgress boundaries and challenge traditions in terms of form and style. While music had Dylan, The Beatles, the Velvet Underground and the Stones, art had the likes of Martin Sharp and Alan Aldridge that created psychedelic posters, collages and graphics using neon paints. Inspired by one of the greatest modern cultural movements, the new and creative Neon Brush experience has now opened in Melbourne to help you unlock your artistic abilities.
Neon Brush takes place at Hanover House on selected dates over the coming months, at one of Melbourne’s most recognisable buildings of Southbank. Formerly known as ‘Art and Glow in the Dark’ in Melbourne, this vibrant workshop is open to everyone. You don’t have to recreate Sharp’s Mister Tambourine Man poster or be a pro to have a good time. Feel free to bring your own beverage of choice to get the creative juices flowing. Places are limited so hurry up and reserve your seat now!
What is Neon Brush?
Neon Brush is an adults-only sip and paint workshop that transforms the typical art studio into a relaxed yet electric atmosphere with neon colours and paints, UV lights and booze. As you listen to a fun soundtrack while sipping on a refreshing drink you’ve brought from home, this not-so-ordinary art class allows for your artistic self to shine.
Tell me more about this sip and paint experience
During these 90 minute sessions, you get to create whatever you like. Go outside the lines and disrupt conventions or go for a more traditional still life arrangement, a mythical creature, a beach or a stormy sky. You decide! If this feels too intimidating, worry not. There will be a professional artist on hand as well to give you a couple of tips and show you different techniques you can use should you want to.
Who is Neon Brush for?
Although artists can go, Neon Brush is open to everyone. After all, you don’t need to be an artist to be creative. Whether you want to treat yourself to a class and find out if you’re the next Yayoi Kusama, or you’re planning a fun evening for your friends, partners, family or team building at work, this painting class is always a fun time. It flips the script on the traditional painting class and always guarantees the giggles.
