The end of the year is almost here, and if you’re keen to see the fireworks on New Year’s Eve, we’ve got all the details for you. Get hyped up for a shimmering celebration, with fireworks and laser displays that will light up the city across 27 rooftops. The theme this year is “All That Sparkles”, so you’re encouraged to wear your brightest sequins and glitter to welcome the new year. Put on your party hats and enjoy the midnight display from anywhere with city skyline views, or from one of four Celebration Zones in the CBD. Here’s what we know so far.

New Year’s Eve fireworks and lasers
Ring in the New Year with a dazzling fireworks and laser display, set to an eight-minute soundtrack produced in partnership with Nova 100’s Jase & Lauren. This stunning display will span across six kilometres.
“There’s no better place to ring in the New Year than Melbourne,” said Lord Mayor Nicholas Reece. “Only in the city can you experience a vibe like no other – fireworks, laser shows, DJs, live music and more.”
This year, the family-friendly Celebration Zones will take place in Flagstaff Gardens, Treasury Gardens, Kings Domain and Docklands. These four spots will be playing plenty of bangers from Melbourne DJs and live bands, as well as hosting food trucks, dance workshops and more. You don’t need a booking to enter, just note that these zones are alcohol-free.
These Celebration Zones will open up from 6pm. Families can enjoy early fireworks at 9:30pm, or stick around for the midnight finale. The zones will stay open until 1am.
Over 500,000 partygoers are expected to flock to the city. If you’re one of them, allow for extra time and expect delays. There will be significant pedestrian detours in place. Flinders Street, Princes Bridge and the surrounding streets will be closed to pedestrians from 10:30pm.
It’s recommended that you take public transport, and there will be extra trains, trams and buses running into the city before 10pm.

Watching from afar
Not going into the city? Not to worry, if you can see the skyline, you can see the fireworks. And the stunning laser show will be best enjoyed from outside the CBD. 30 high-powered lasers will beam through the night sky from 11 city rooftops.
Arthur Ipsaros from Genius Laser Technology, who will flick the switch on on New Year’s Eve, says that those in the north-east and south-eastern suburbs will have a particularly prime position. But, anyone who can see the skyline will feel dazzled by the show.
If you’re watching the fireworks and lasers from afar, you can tune into Nova to hear the official soundtrack.
