A month-long festival devoted to truffles is coming to Gippsland this winter. Follow your nose to the inaugural Noojee Truffle Festival, and celebrate this earthy treat by visiting truffle farms, wandering along misty forest trails and feasting on chef-led dinners. The festival will take over Noojee and the surrounding areas from Friday, July 10 to Sunday, August 2.

Noojee Truffle Festival
Drive roughly two hours away from Melbourne to Noojee, and explore the festival at your own pace.
If you’d like to try truffle hunting, head to Ashridge Truffles in Neerim South, where you’ll follow Bindi the truffle dog, and meet her apprentices Molly and Lulu. After the hunt, take part in truffle tastings. You can also go to Scotch Hill Truffle Farm, where you’ll follow Boogie on his search, while taking in stunning views across the rolling hills to Mt Baw Baw. Then, enjoy truffle tasting by the fire.

Across Noojee and the surrounding area, truffles from The Icy Creek Truffle Co will appear on the menus of cafes, pubs and restaurants. Look forward to chef-led dinners, long lunches and lovely tastings. The festival will kick off with a four-course meal at Neeri Nuff Wine Kitchen & Bar, where you’ll enjoy truffles paired with seasonal produce. Learn a bit more about truffles with workshops and cooking demonstrations.
Meanwhile, every Sunday of the festival, the Noojee Heritage Precinct will transform into Truffle Station. Look forward to truffle dog appearances, live music, heritage displace and face painting for the kids. You’ll also find some friendly guides, who will happily share festival activities, assist with booking events and give tips about local trails.

If you need to walk off a meal, linger around the area and explore the local sights. Walk or ride a bike just outside of town to see the historic Noojee Trestle Bridge. If you prefer waterfalls, take a stroll through the forest, and see the pretty Toorongo and Amphitheatre Falls.
Preparing for the festival

Many key experiences, such as the truffle hunts or dining events, have limited numbers, so it’s best to book in advance. But, if you miss out, you can still explore the town, try a casual bite and soak in the atmosphere.
This winter festival will go ahead, even in the rain, so dress appropriately with layers. Wear sensible shoes that you won’t mind getting muddy, especially if you’re going on a farm.
Make a weekend of it and book somewhere to stay overnight, so you can truly take your time and enjoy the festival.
