Just five years ago, the world watched in horror as a fire engulfed the famous Notre-Dame cathedral in Paris. The restored site will reopen for the first time at the end of the year, and if you’re unable to fly to Paris, you can enjoy the next best thing, and embark on a journey through the cathedral at Notre-Dame de Paris, the Augmented Exhibition. This incredible touring exhibition has delighted visitors around the world, including London, Paris and Dubai. Soon, you can check it out right here in Melbourne. Notre-Dame de Paris, the Augmented Exhibition will open at Immigration Museum on Thursday December 5.
Notre-Dame de Paris, the Augmented Exhibition at Immigration Museum
This exhibition was designed and produced by digital heritage specialists, Histovery, in collaboration with Rebuilding Notre-Dame de Paris. Each visitor will use a HistoPad, an augmented reality tablet that will transport you through the cathedral’s 850-year history.
Head back to the Middle Ages, when the stones of the site were first laid, and witness other key moments in history, such as the wedding of King Henry IV, the coronation of Napoleon Bonaparte, and the construction of Notre-Dame’s spire. Finally, return to the present day, and learn all about the experts that are painstakingly restoring the cathedral to its former glory.
The actual cathedral in Paris is set to reopen on December 8, just days after the exhibition comes to Melbourne. The exhibition will stay in town until April 27 in 2025.
The cost of seeing this exhibition will be included with museum entry, which is $15 for adults and $10 for seniors. Children and concession are free.
