It feels as though the whole world has fallen in love with Pesto the Penguin. This baby penguin has captured our hearts with his large and fluffy nature. Weighing over 22kg, he is the largest chick that SEA LIFE Melbourne Aquarium has ever seen, and he certainly stands out among the crowd of adult penguins. And now, he has been honoured in perhaps the most Melbourne way possible. Pesto the Penguin has been turned into a cool new piece of street art tucked inside a Melbourne laneway. This piece of art is available for you to check out now.
Pesto the Penguin street art
SEA LIFE Melbourne Aquarium has collaborated with local street artist Lukas Kasper to bring this mural to life. To find it, just take a stroll down Higson Lane, which is located just off Flinders Lane between Russell and Exhibition Street.
The mural captures Pesto in his adorably fluffy state, towering above four adult penguins. As a baby penguin, Pesto won’t stay fuzzy forever. When he fledges, his feathers will molt, and he will have the same black and white feathers as the other penguins in the colony. With the mural, Pesto has been immortalised in the chonky and fluffy state that shot him into fame.
After seeing the work of art, pop by SEA LIFE Melbourne Aquarium to see Pesto in the flesh. The aquarium is open daily from 9am to 5pm.
