Celebrated craft beer brewery, Pirate Life, is setting up shop in South Melbourne. Located just a stone’s throw away from South Melbourne Market, inside a former mechanic garage, this South Australian venue will feature plenty of fresh beer, as well as delicious food, live music, mural activations and more. Pirate Life will officially open on Thursday March 14.

This space will be the fourth venue for the brewers. Expect plenty of beer, with fresh kegs shipped directly from Pirate Life’s brewery in South Australia. There will be core range classics and limited releases, such as their Vanilla Malt Thickshake IPA. Sip on fruit sours, stouts, pale ales, nitro and more. You can also try their venue-exclusive drink, The Market Street Lager.
“Our crew are passionate about finding the perfect beer for every individual who walks through the door, and better yet, which one will take their food experience to the next level,” said Matty O’Callaghan, Pirate Life’s brand experience manager. “Pirate Life’s tap list runs deep, and it’s our privilege to take punters on an explorative journey through flavours and styles.”
If you’re not into beer, there’s also a curated wine list, featuring sustainable and organic drops from around Australia and Europe.
Maria Delengas and Nicolas Lopez are the head chefs, so you can look forward to a menu that celebrates Melbourne’s cultural landscape and their South American and Greek heritage. Thanks to their location, the produce will be sourced locally from South Melbourne Market.
The menu is split into five sections: snacks, plates and trays, by the kilo, sides and desserts. Feast on pickled octopus carpaccio, asado beef ribs, burnt butter kataifi with pistachio, hot jam doughnuts and more.
If you’re in a hurry, there’s also a daily express lunch menu, offering treats like lasagne and battered fish tacos.
Pirate Life will continue to celebrate the arts, with collaborations, mural activations and roaming exhibitions planned for the future. To keep things interesting, you can also look forward to live music and guest chef dinners.
The venue will stay open daily, running from 11am to 10pm from Sunday to Thursday, and 11am to late on Friday and Saturday.
