Celebrated craft beer brewery, Pirate Life, is setting up shop in South Melbourne. Set just a stone’s throw away from South Melbourne Market, inside a former mechanic garage, this South Australian venue will feature plenty of fresh beer, as well as delicious food, live music, mural activations and more. Pirate Life is set to launch in mid-2023.

This upcoming space will be the fourth venue for the brewers. It’ll retain the grunge of the former workshop, with updated interiors featuring artwork, murals, greenery and more to bring the space to life. They’ll work with South Australian architect and design firm Studio Gram to execute their vision.
“As a brand, we’ve been long-time admirers of Melbourne’s hospitality scene and Pirate Life’s new venue in South Melbourne finally gives us a chance to be part of it, while showcasing our love for people, food and beverage,” said co-founder Jack Cameron. “With the area boasting some of Melbourne’s – and PL’s – cult-favourite brands, we can’t wait to get amongst it and show locals what Pirate Life is all about.”
Expect plenty of beer at the venue, with fresh kegs shipped directly from Pirate Life’s brewery in Port Adelaide. There will be a core range, including pale ales, IPAs and stouts, as well as limited releases. There will also be fruit sours, barrel-aged imperials and nitro. If you’re not into beer, there will also be spirits and wine to try.
As for food, there will be a rotating menu that explores the range of the local market stalls, and draws inspiration from fresh and local ingredients. “We love cooking over fire, so anticipate charred goodness,” said Cameron.
Pirate Life will also celebrate the arts, with mural activations, roaming exhibitions, live music and celebrity chef dinners set to happen in the coming months.
