Whisk yourself away to the Bellarine Peninsula and stay at the historic Portarlington Grand Hotel. After a multi-million dollar renovation, there’s new boutique rooms and refurbished dining spaces to discover. Treat yourself to a little getaway when the hotel throws its doors open to the public this August.
Portarlington Grand Hotel
Return to the golden age of Port Phillip Bay at the Portarlington Grand Hotel. It’s an easy 70-minute ferry journey from Melbourne’s Docklands, and just a short walk from Portarlington Pier. Created in 1888 and located in the heart of Portarlington, this hotel is the perfect gateway to beaches, nature, food, wine and more.
Step back in time and admire the carefully restored façade and grand staircase. Melbourne-based architects Technē Architecture + Interior Design created new interiors to balance modern luxury with heritage grandeur. Weatherworn timber was used to reference the old timber of the pier, and experts were consulted to retrace history, and keep the designs true to its original intent.
There’s 18 new, heritage-inspired rooms to discover across two levels. Many of these include gorgeous balconies and bay views. Two of the rooms were designed with wheelchair accessibility in mind. Feel a sense of Victorian grandeur, and enjoy ornamental fireplaces and luxurious furnishings.
Dining spaces
Sample the best produce from the region in four dining spaces, including famous Portarlington Mussels, craft beers and award-winning wines. Both the Front Bar and the Bistro will provide a sophisticated yet relaxed setting. Enjoy light snacks, classic pub fare and cocktails, with tasty dishes like pork knuckle, BBQ ribs and seafood risotto.
Enjoy coastal views across three levels at beer garden, The Atrium. On the menu, you’ll find traditional wood-fired pizzas cooked in an outdoor kitchen, as well as local beer, wine and spirits.
Families, friends and dog lovers are all welcome at The Lawn. Sit on picnic tables under yellow and white striped umbrellas, and enjoy access to the full bistro menu, including seafood platters and signature cocktails.
The concierge team will be on hand to arrange an itinerary, so you can try the best of the Bellarine. This itinerary includes visits to award-winning wineries, restaurants and intimate experiences with local makers, growers and artisans. The hotel also puts you in close proximity with pristine beaches, surf spots, golf courses and more.
If you’re coming by ferry, there will be a warning bell at the hotel 30 minutes before each ferry’s departure. If you’re driving, there is local parking available.
Hotel bookings can be made after August 1, with overnight rates available from $250.
