We love venturing into the great outdoors and going on a nice, easy walk. From stunning coastal strolls to tranquil forest trails, there’s so many delightful spaces around the state for you to explore on foot. And winter is a great time to go for a walk, since you don’t have to worry about bugs, sweat or crowds. Wilsons Prom, which is buzzing with people during the warmer months, offers an abundance of trails to try. And if you’re a fan of wildlife, there’s one spot that’s particularly appealing. Check out the Prom Wildlife Walk, and see plenty of native wildlife as you amble along this easy loop.
Prom Wildlife Walk
This simple loop is just 2.3km long, and is a great way to stretch your legs and get in touch with nature. Your journey begins and ends at the ‘Prom Wildlife Walk’ sign on Wilsons Promontory Road. The walk takes about 45 minutes to complete, and will take you through native bushland and across open grasslands. As you go, look out for kangaroos, wombats, wallabies and emus. If you’re particularly keen on searching for wombats, leave at around dusk to increase your chances.
Remember to keep your distance. For your safety and the safety of the animals, don’t touch them or give them any food.
The Wildlife Walk also had an upgrade in December 2024, so there’s some fresh facilities to enjoy, including interpretive signage along the trail. The track has been resurfaced so it’s nice and flat, and there are seats at four rest points along the way, so you can take your time and enjoy the view.
Unfortunately, there aren’t any toilets on this trail, so you’ll need to ‘go’ before you go.
As this walk is located within a national park, dogs aren’t welcome to come along.
There is a car park nearby, so you can drive as close as possible to the entrance.
For any updates about conditions in the area, keep an eye on the Parks Victoria website.
