A new community market is helping turn Cranbourne’s CBD into a monthly gathering place, with dozens of local traders, food trucks and family-friendly activities drawing crowds from across Melbourne’s southeast.
Held behind Cranbourne Park Shopping Centre, ScullyBug Market launched earlier this year with a simple idea, which is creating a regular event where locals can shop, eat and spend time together without travelling into Melbourne’s inner suburbs.
The market combines a traditional farmers market with a growing food truck event known as Night Bites, offering everything from fresh produce and handmade goods to live music and children’s entertainment.
Bringing a new community hub to Cranbourne

While Melbourne is home to countless weekend markets, options in the rapidly growing suburbs of Cranbourne, Clyde and Narre Warren have historically been more limited.
That’s part of what inspired local resident Lisa Doherty to establish ScullyBug Market after years of running events in other parts of Victoria. Seeing an opportunity to activate underused space behind Cranbourne Park Shopping Centre, she envisioned a regular market that could serve as a social meeting point as much as a shopping destination.
Since launching in April, the event has attracted a strong local following and continues to grow with each edition.
Beyond the market stalls

Visitors will find more than 100 stalls on market days, ranging from fresh fruit and vegetables to artisan products, takeaway food and small local businesses.
However, one of the biggest pulls (especially for parents) is the dedicated KidsZone, where all activities are completely free. Children can get involved in LEGO building, Play-Doh play, colouring competitions, sensory activities and other hands-on experiences designed to keep them entertained throughout the day.
Food trucks are scattered throughout the site, while live music and extensive seating encourage visitors to settle in and spend the afternoon rather than simply stopping by for a quick browse. The market is also dog-friendly, meaning four-legged family members are welcome to join in the fun as well.
As evening arrives, the market shifts gears with Night Bites, a dedicated food truck event featuring street food vendors, live entertainment and communal dining areas. The concept proved popular from the outset, drawing thousands of visitors to its first evening event and establishing itself as a new after-dark destination in Cranbourne.
Moreover, with marquees, lighting, music and a diverse lineup of food vendors, the event offers a festival-like atmosphere without requiring a trip into Melbourne’s CBD.
Even as temperatures drop, organisers plan to continue running the event throughout winter, offering locals another reason to get out and explore their neighbourhood.
Inspired by family, built for families

The market’s name comes from Doherty’s twin children, whose nicknames inspired the ScullyBug brand.
That familial inspiration remains central to the event’s identity, with free children’s activities, relaxed seating areas and community-focused programming helping create an atmosphere that feels welcoming to visitors of all ages.
What began as a market concept in Frankston has quickly expanded into one of Melbourne’s southeast’s newest community events, reflecting both the area’s rapid growth and increasing demand for local experiences.
